On June 3rd, we are partnering with TD Visible Minority Employee Resource Group to understand the importance of self-advocacy in the workplace. Learning to brand and advocate for yourself can be challenging, especially when it intersects with your cultural values. Becoming an effective self-advocate is a critical skill needed to succeed.
Our panelists, Raveena Rai, AVP HR, Pacific Region, at TD, and Joanne Sun, Tax Partner and Leader, Global Employer Services Group, Western Region, at BDO will highlight:
• The importance of self-advocacy in the workplace
• The importance of acknowledging and recognizing your self-worth to seize career opportunities
• How to demonstrate self-confidence and share accomplishments in a tactful manner

Panelist Bios
Betsey Chung, EVP, Global Chief Marketing Officer at TD
• Betsey Chung is the EVP, Global Chief Marketing Officer of TD Bank Group (TD), where she oversees the articulation of TD's purpose-driven strategy across its global footprint. In this role, Betsey leads a world-class team of marketers who help activate the Brand to help form deeper connections with our customers, colleagues and communities.
• Betsey joined TD in 2017 and has helped re-imagine the banking experience on TD's digital channels, including providing our customers with proactive advice and personalized solutions that help them feel confident about their financial future. Betsey has over 25 years of experience in the financial services industry, leading large global teams driving marketing strategy, digital acquisition, social, content, customer strategy, targeted marketing, brand development, advertising and media. She has worked in the US, UK and Asia for global organizations including American Express, BMO and KPMG Consulting. Betsey has been recognized for her impact and excellence in Canadian leadership and was named a 2020 recipient of The Globe & Mail, Report on Business Best Executive Award – Sales & Marketing.
• As a key member of TD's Inclusion and Diversity Leadership Council, Betsey is champion of inclusion and diversity. She is active on TD's Enterprise Women in Leadership and Visible Minority Committees and chairs the TD Marketing Black Colleague Network. She also sits on the United Way Board of Trustees and a Board member of Havergal College. Betsey completed her MBA at London Business School in the UK and obtained her Chartered Accountancy designation. She lives in Toronto with her husband and two daughters.
Raveena Rai, AVP HR, Pacific Region, at TD
• Raveena Rai is an Associate Vice President, Human Resources at TD. In this role, Raveena is responsible for providing support to develop & execute HR programs/initiatives for approximately 3000 colleagues across 160+ branches in BC & Yukon. Following a 5 year career in Management Consulting with Deloitte, Raveena joined TD in 2020 as the Senior HR Business Partner for the Canadian Branch Banking Pacific Region team. Since that time, Raveena has leveraged her HR functional expertise to provide expert advice and consultation to the Pacific Region with ideas and solutions which can be scaled at a national level. Raveena is known for her thoughtful and creative approach, bringing innovative ideas to life and creating calm, confident clarity as she works through solutions.
• Raveena holds a Bachelors of Commerce from the UBC Sauder School of Business with a double-specialization in Finance & Human Resources. In her spare time, Raveena loves skiing & hockey.
Joanne Sun, Tax Partner and Leader of Global Employer Services group, Western Region, at BDO
• Joanne is a Tax Partner and current leads BDO’s Global Employer Services group in the Western Region. She is a Canadian Chartered Professional Accountant who is also admitted to practice before the United States Internal Revenue Service. She has over 25 years of experience assisting employers in managing the Canadian and U.S. tax issues arising from the cross-border movement of its employees, consultants, directors and executives. During her 5-year career span at BDO, she has taken on numerous leadership roles, including Western Canadian Region Leader of Global Employer Services, Canadian National Leader of Immigration Services, Leader of the Americas Region for Global Immigration Services. At the end of this month, she will also be taking on the Western Canadian Region Leader role for BDO’s U.S. Personal Tax Services group.
• Joanne is passionate about people and talent development. She joined Ascend in 2013 and was one of the founding members of Ascend Canada’s Vancouver chapter. Today she serves on Ascend’s Strategic Advisory Council (Vancouver Chapter), and continues to actively mentor emerging leaders both at BDO and in the community through Ascend Canada’s Mentorship Program.
