Speaker Bio
John is an angel investor, director and Chair of numerous early life cycle businesses, across numerous industries in British Columbia, and formerly served as a mentor at UBC Creative Destruction Lab.
John currently serves on the board of Canada Pension Plan Investment Board, Aritzia, AbCellera, and Eupraxia Pharmaceuticals.
He is the former CEO of RBC Global Asset Management managing over $370 billion in assets.
John's community involvement includes serving as a board member at the Asia Pacific Foundation of Canada, The BC Achievement Foundation, Windmill Microlending (in support of skilled immigrants and refugees), and is the current Chair of St. Paul’s Hospital Foundation. His past roles include Chair of the UBC Board of Governors, Trustee of the Killam Trusts, Director of the Investment Committee of The Canada Council for the Arts, Chair for the Vancouver Public Library Capital Campaign, and the recent past Chair of The Vancouver Police Foundation.
John holds a Chartered Financial Analyst designation and a Bachelor of Commerce, with Honours from the University of British Columbia, and an Honorary Doctorate from Emily Carr University of Art and Design.
