About this event
For thousands of years, winter at the confluence of the Bow and Elbow rivers has been a time to gather, reflect and share stories. As part of Chinook Blast, Fort Calgary invites you to join us around the fire to hear from Indigenous storytellers from Treaty 7. The listening circle will be kept warm and bright with a roaring fire, heaters, blankets, and hot chocolate.
NOTE: Due to cold weather forecasts that include some nasty wind chills, we are moving the Jan. 28 event inside to the Lower Barracks, where there will be plenty of warmth, light and winter spirit. We will share location updates about Feb. 4 closer to the date.
Presented in Partnership with Chinook Blast
Experience the magic of Chinook Blast, Calgary’s winter festival celebration. From Jan. 27 – Feb. 12, 2023, Chinook Blast warms up our city with a celebration of community, culture, and civic pride. The best of Calgary’s art, music, theatre, sport and recreation will be on display.
Recognizing Fort Calgary’s layered past
The confluence of the Bow and Elbow rivers has been a place of significance to Indigenous peoples since long before 1875, when the North West Mounted Police established a site of colonial occupation called Fort Calgary and prepared the way for a new settler-colonial community.
This place remains significant to Indigenous peoples today and Fort Calgary National Historic Site now strives to provide the space and opportunity to reflect on the past and help create better paths for our futures.
