Description

Fisher River First Nation and Peguis Treaty Days.

Join the Manitoba Historical Society as we take a day trip tour through Manitoba's Interlake region to visit the Fisher River Cree First Nation, then South to Peguis First Nation, returning to Winnipeg via Teulon.

Departing from Grant Park Shopping Centre at 8.00 AM on Wednesday 17th July, this trip will travel through Manitoba’s Interlake region to first visit Fisher River Cree First Nation. Their will be a refreshment break at Tuelon. At Fisher River we will have an opportunity to learn about the history of its people and view its solar power project, which is the largest in Manitoba. We will then drive south to Peguis First Nation to visit the pow-wow that is a part of their three-day Treaty Days celebration. Dancers from across Canada will be competing in a truly amazing and colourful display of artistry and ability. Numerous vendors will be on site displaying a variety of crafts, and souvenirs. Lunch will be on your own but there will be numerous food trucks and vendors selling a variety of items and drinks (including traditional foods) or, if you wish, feel free to pack a light lunch to bring with you. Those who wish may choose to visit the Reserve’s casino. After spending time in Peguis, the tour will return to Winnipeg, stopping at St. Cyprian’s Church in Tuelon for a delicious “fall supper.” The tour will return to Grant Park no later than 8.00 pm.

Bring your camera, hat and, if you wish, a folding chair.

Fees:The fee for the tour is $85.00 for MHS members, $95.00 for non-members. It includes all fees, taxes and gratuities, a morning refreshment break, dinner, and transportation by an All Road Tours luxury air-conditioned and washroom-equipped motor coach

Organized by

The Manitoba Historical Society, founded in 1879, is the oldest organization in Western Canada dedicated to preserving Manitoba history for future generations. The MHS holds fast to the mandate of our founders, continuing their legacy of preservation, promotion, research, and education. Our Awards Programs recognize the works of Manitoba youth, and the many farms, businesses, and organizations that have operated continuously for 100 years or more. We are advocates for preserving our province’s built heritage. We present field trips throughout our province, host films and lectures, and organize multicultural events where Manitobans can share their rich past. As a registered Canadian Charitable Organization, the MHS publishes a journal magazine Prairie History, three issues per year, and publishes and maintains a comprehensive website archival resource.
