Event description
An empowerment and safety program for young women in high school.

About this Event

High school and university is a time for for learning, personal growth, friendship, and fun - but for young women, it also means facing the risk of sexual assault. Tips like "don't walk home alone" and "get to know people first" do not make young women safer because (almost) all attacks are by someone she knows.

The North Shore Women's Centre is pleased to offer an evidence-based program that trains young women to trust their judgement, recognize common tactics, and act quickly to keep themselves safe. Flip the Script™ (originally called EAAA) was shown in a study of 840 Canadian students to cut a participant’s risk of sexual assault in half, and is recognized by the Canadian Institute for Health Research.

In Flip the Script™, young women learn what the best research says about risk cues for acquaintance sexual violence. They also practice overcoming social pressure to "be nice", explore healthy relationships and sexuality, and learn self-defence. This program never tells women to restrict their freedom or behaviour - we make it clear that assaults are always the perpetrator’s fault.

This program is open to self-identified women aged 16-19.
