An eco-fair that raises food waste awareness and bridges the gap with food insecurity through a decolonizing and culturally inclusive lens.

About this Event

Food 4 Thought is an eco & cultural food connecting event to build awareness on food waste, connect our black, indigenous, people of colour (BIPOC) communities experiencing food insecurity to resources, and to celebrate & appreciate diverse cultural food. From this event, our group BIPOC in Bloom hopes to create a BIPOC community garden as a continual green space to support the healing and nurturing of individuals seeking to grow their relationship with food and land.

FREE ADMISSION! For each person that registers for general admission or for one of our presentations on Eventbrite, they will receive a choice of a button or sticker!

WHAT WILL BE AT THE EVENT?

-Booth activities will educate the public on budgeting and meal planning, produce storage and regrowing from scraps and how to make natural beauty products from food! You can also make your own seed-ball!

- Raffle prizes ($25 Safeway gift card, Operations Fruit Rescue One year membership...and more!)

- Which organizations will be there? Learn about: Leftover YEG, Multicultural Health Brokers(MCHB) - Grocery run program, Edmonton Immigrant Services Association(EISA), Food 4 Good, Sustainable Food Edmonton, Diversity Magazine, Africa Centre: YEG the Come Up.

1:15 PM - About BIPOC in Bloom intro and Community Garden & Apathy is Boring

1:30 PM - How to reduce Food Waste by Leftover YEG - The Leftovers Foundation works to mobilize community action to reduce waste through education and awareness, policy and advocacy and redirection and creative re-purposing. This presentation will highlight the current state of food waste in Canada, and ways that individuals can get involved to reduce food waste.

3:00 PM - Panel: Across Generations: Talking about Food, Identity, and Land.

There will be 3 guests from different generations, who will share their thoughts and experiences surrounding how colonization and living in Canada has shaped their identity and relationship with the land and cultural foods.
