Food and Media Certificate Panel: Food Writing and Publishing with Foodism
Event Information
About this Event
There are countless types of different jobs and careers where you get to work food and explore your passion. George Brown College is creating pathways and opportunities for students to learn more about new food careers beyond just the restaurant kitchen, including our Food and Media Certificate in Continuing Education at the Centre for Hospitality and Culinary Arts. Food media offers a chance to share your love and enthusiasm for food with a broad audience. And within food media, there are a wide variety of different career paths available.
Learn what it is like to work in a food media career with the team behind Toronto’s Foodism. Publisher Krista Faist, Editor Katie Bridges, and Senior Designer Amy Ward will present a panel on what it is like to put together a food publication from conception to publication. They will discuss how every issue of the magazine is built in consideration of ad sales, editorial content, and art production. Foodism is a high-quality food magazine, email newsletter, and a website — which together require a dedicated and professional staff to create and publish. Learn what it is like to work in this area of food media directly from a successful Toronto-based food publication. The discussion, led by a GBC moderator, will include possible career paths; what the day-to-day is like; and key job aspects. See “behind the curtain” of a food magazine to enrich your understanding of food careers.
This will be an online panel. We will send a link to all the registrants nearer to the seminar.
