A story sharing workshop guided by participants' memories and connection to food, resulting in a visual collage.

About this event

Toronto Chinatown is a dynamic neighbourhood with amazing restaurants and delicious food. In this intergenerational story-sharing workshop, participants will be guided to create a visual by collaging, drawing, and/ or colouring based on their unique food memory in Chinatown.

The two-hour workshop will be facilitated in English with a Mandarin-speaking translator. Materials will be provided! Masks will be required for the duration of the workshop.

About the Collaborators

Wandy Cheng is a multidisciplinary artist from Hong Kong whose work exists in various creative outputs including illustration, ceramics, paper-cut and public art. She has experience coordinating and facilitating collaborative workshops to bring meaningful, community-engaged installations to life. In recent years, her illustration can be seen on the streets of Toronto and within pages of international publications. https://www.wandycheng.com/

here-there is a library of stories shared by members of the Asian Canadian diaspora. It is a place to explore what holds us together, as individuals and as a community. Each unguided story follows a “pass-it-on” structure that weaves an anthology of lived histories and experiences. Collectively, it is a space to contemplate the nuanced journeys of those who live both here and there. https://www.here-there.ca/

Whippersnapper Gallery is an artist-run centre committed to the cultivation of inclusive spaces for emerging visual and media arts, community arts, and experimental forms of exhibition making. We provide artists and cultural producers with a flexible platform and exhibition space to expand the parameters of their professional practice. Whippersnapper is structured to encourage peer-to-peer mentorship and promote success by the artists’ own standards. Through critical and diverse programming, Whippersnapper initiates new relationships and unexpected conversations. We facilitate exchange between artists and local communities, and between a spectrum of emerging and established art communities throughout Toronto and Canada. https://whippersnapper.ca/
