Event description

Description

Registration Required through Eventbrite

A hands-on and community-based course on seasonal food preservation. The workshop series will bridge theory and practice as well as traditional and modern knowledge.

TOPIC: Food safety & Introduction to Canning
WHEN: 27/09/2017
WHERE: Multi-faith and Spirituality Centre
RECIPE: Apple chutney & applesauce (choose your jar)
COST: $10 (This discounted price is possible thanks to the Concordia Food Coalition, that partially funds us)

In this workshop we will learn about canning and food safety. Canning is a food preservation method in which foods are processed then stored in hermetically sealed containers. Home canning is the process of packing fruits, vegetables, and meats into glass jars and heating the jars to eliminate spoilage and pathogenic organisms. Canning provides a shelf life ranging from 1 to 5 years.

ACCESSIBILITY

If you still want to participate but cannot cover the cost of registration for any reason, please e-mail us to work out an alternative.

Workshops will be mainly given in English, mais nous encourageons les participantes a s'exprimer en francais.

Unfortunately, the kitchen space is not wheel-chair accessible. It is on the first floor of the building with a dozen steps to reach the front door.

There are two gender neutral bathrooms on the second floor of the building.

Please e-mail us contact@seasonjars.com, if you have any other questions.
