Bird Watching 101

Bird watching or birding is the most popular hobby in Canada, 1 in 5 Canadians watch birds. It’s easy to understand the popularity of the hobby. Birds are colourful, entertaining, talented singer and lead incredibly interesting lives. Birding is an incredibly accessible hobby that is easy to do anytime and anywhere. Whether you are watching birds at feeders in your backyard, local park or halfway around the world, birding allows you to participate in any capacity you wish. Join Kristen Martyn as she explores the hobby of bird watching including important tools for beginners, bird feeding tips, the positive impacts of birding in daily life, simple ways to help birds and why birds are important to our environment.

Bio: Kristen Martyn

Kristen Martyn is a Birder, Naturalist, Tour Leader, presenter, photographer and Bird Feeding Specialist. Her strong passion for the natural world, led her to pursue a BSc. in Zoology and complete a Post-Graduate course in Ecotourism and Adventure Tourism Management. Kristen leads bird watching and wildlife tours both in Canada and abroad. She is also an Owner of Wild Birds Unlimited Barrie, a backyard bird feeding and nature shop. Kristen greatly enjoys teaching people about our natural world.
