This one-day event aims to provide faculty, staff and students the opportunity to explore through networking, presentations and informal sharing, strategies to incorporate diversity and inclusion into learning and teaching at Dalhousie.

Morning:

(8:00 – 8:30) Registration and light refreshments

(8:30 – 9:15) Openings and introductions with Elder Geri Musqua-LeBlanc and VP Equity and Inclusion, Theresa Rajak-Talley

(9:15 – 10:10) Keynote “Decolonizing Education for Inclusion and the Implications for Teaching and Learning”. Dr. George Dei, Professor at OISE of the University of Toronto, a scholar in anti-racist research and indigenous knowledge.

(10:10 – 10:30) BREAK

(10:30 – 11:00) “What is the experience at Dalhousie, what is needed in the curriculum?” - Student Voices: Keisha Jefferies, Phoebe Owen, Melissa Myers

(11:00 – 12:00) “What does an inclusive curriculum look like and how can we achieve it?”- Faculty Voices: Lisa Goldberg, Judy MacDonald, Amyl Ghanem, Naiomi Metallic, Ingrid Waldron; moderated by Brad Wuetherick.

(12:00 – 1:00) LUNCH provided on site – Room 170

Afternoon:

Three concurrent sessions, followed by thematically linked, hands-on workshops (participants may mix and match, but suggested pairings are below)

B. (1:00 – 2:00) Principles of the Inclusive Classroom // (2:15 – 3:45) How to be a successful provocateur

C. (1:00 – 2:00) Why Universal Design for Learning (UDL)? Philosophy and Principles // (2:15 – 3:45) Exploring, Applying, and Experimenting with Universal Design for Learn (UDL)
