Fostering Change - Advocacy Learning Day
Event Information
Description
Come join First Call: BC Child and Youth Advocacy Coalition and a number of community organizations as we explore the child welfare advocacy landscape in BC through a new systems map resource, facilitated discussion, and activities. We'll learn about what's working and what's not, and how we can fill gaps together.
Vancouver Foundation’s learning days have been intentional opportunities to network in the child welfare and youth aging out of care space, find collaboration opportunities with community stakeholders and organizations, and find out about work going on in this space. First Call’s Fostering Change campaign is excited to host a November 23rd Learning Day at Creekside Community Centre.
- WHAT: A day to learn about advocacy in child welfare in BC, discuss gaps and opportunities, and hear about a systems map prepared for the advocacy community in BC
- WHO: Organizations, individual advocates, and youth from care concerned about policy and systemic change for youth leaving care
- WHERE + WHEN: Creekside Community Centre, 1 Athletes Way, Vancouver BC – 10am-3:30pm
- WHY: To find out who’s doing what, what’s working, and which campaign gaps can be filled by First Call and other community partners
We’re working with SFU student Anne Peirce to assemble a map of what child welfare advocacy exists in BC. This resource will be presented and facilitated through group discussion and activities. A number of groups have been contacted for interviews – if you have something to offer and have not been contacted, please reach out to me by Friday, November 9th.
