Program Summary:

This course is designed as a foundational EDI course for leaders to understand concepts of power, privilege, and intersectionality and how it impacts the workplace. Upon completion of the course you will develop a deeper understanding of implicit biases and their impacts in the workplace. As a plan of action you can help identify actions for workplace culture change when you explore your own unconscious biases in a safe space. This course will allow you to gain tools to mitigate the negative effects of unconscious biases in the workplace and to further understand how unconscious biases is part of larger EDI organizational work.

  • Decolonizing our bios
  • The wheel of power and privilege
  • Unpacking your invisible backpack
  • Microagressions: Themes and Messages
  • The "Problem" Woman of Colour in the workplace
  • The "Norm" of white dominant culture and something different worksheet

We will be offering this course via Zoom. Participants will be supported and coached online as they work through exercises and sector specific case studies to enhance the learning.


Adeline Huynh, CEO & Principal Consultant, The Commons

Adeline has 15 years of leadership in the field of workplace equity, diversity and inclusion. Her most recent experiences come from leading organizational change initiatives at UBC and SFU, as well as with non profit, healthcare, and the private sector. At UBC, Adeline worked for the Equity & Inclusion Office (EIO) as an Equity Facilitator where she designed curriculum and delivered workshops covering a variety of EDI related topics including inclusive leadership, respectful workplace, intercultural development, sexual orientation and gender identity (SOGI), anti-racism, and more, all within the higher education context. While at SFU, she was the Director , Equity, Diversity and Inclusion (embedded in HR). At SFU, Adeline was responsible for leading people practices systems change, supporting a campus-wide EDI consultation process, EDI training, and leadership coaching. Currently she is the CEO & Principal Consultant of The Commons, an equity and inclusion strategy firm.
