TRIPLE P POSITIVE PARENTING SERIES - CHANGING PROBLEM BEHAVIOUR INTO POSITIVE BEHAVIOUR

About this event

WHAT IS THE TRIPLE P - POSITIVE PARENTING SEMINAR SERIES?

Triple P's positive parenting strategies help you manage problem behaviour and developmental issues common in children with a disability. It also helps encourage behaviour you like, cope with stress, develop a close relationship with your child and teach your child new skills. These seminars can assist parents with specific concerns about their child's behaviour or development.

WHO IS IT FOR?

  • Parents or caregivers who have a child with a disability up to the age of 12 years old
  • Those interested in general information about promoting their child's development

Everyone is welcome to attend these FREE online events. Space is limited, so please register soon!

WHAT IS COVERED IN SESSIONS WITH PARENTS?

Topic 1: Helping Your Child Reach Their Potential

This 1.5 hour seminar is offered on the following dates & times:

  1. Wednesday March 24th; 12:00pm - 1:30pm (MDT)
  2. Wednesday May 19th; 9:30am - 11:00am (MDT)

In this seminar, practitioners build on the foundation seminar and show parents how they can use the positive parenting principles to promote their child's development by teaching them new skills and behaviors.

The six key steps to teach a new skill are:

  1. Choosing a skill to teach
  2. Breaking the skill into steps
  3. Choosing rewards
  4. Deciding on when and where to teach
  5. Using effective teaching strategies
  6. Keeping track and review

Topic 2: Changing Problem Behaviour into Positive Behaviour

This 1.5 hour seminar is offered on the following dates & times:

  1. Wednesday April 14th; 12:00pm - 1:30pm (MDT)
  2. Wednesday June 2nd; 9:30am - 11:00am (MDT)

Parents are often uncertain how to manage problem behaviour in ways that help children learn alternative and more adaptive behaviour to take its place. Parents are introduced to the six key steps of how to do this.

The steps covered include:

  • Tracking the behaviour
  • Understanding why the behaviour is occurring
  • Changing events that occur before the problem
  • Encouraging alternative behaviour
  • Removing accidental rewards
  • Putting the plan into action

NOTE: We would love to see you attend both seminars & encourage you to make the schedule that suits you best based on the days and times each seminar is being offered. Please feel free to mix and match to create your own personalized schedule!

WHERE IS THIS SEMINAR BEING HELD?

We are proud to present this seminar online via ZOOM. ZOOM is a free app you can use on virtually any device including a tablet, smartphone or computer. The seminars will be password protected and secure. You get the same great service and information, but from the comfort of your home!

Please note: A link and password for the ZOOM event will be emailed to registrants one day prior to the seminar.

WHY WE ARE ASKING FOR YOUR CHILD'S NAME AND FSCD ID CONTRACT NUMBER (IF APPLICABLE)?

During the registration process, we ask for your child's name and FSCD Contract Number (if applicable). Pacekids Programs is able to offer Triple P Seminars at no cost to you due to funding by Family Support for Children with Disabilities. By providing your child's name and FSCD ID contract number, it allows us to report the number of families with FSCD contracts this program is supporting - helping to ensure we can continue to receive funding and offer the seminar to other families in the Calgary Region.

WHAT RESOURCES DO PARENTS RECEIVE?

Each family will receive a Triple P Tip Sheet corresponding to the seminar(s) they are attending.
