We are screening Canadian documentary “Road to Mercy” at the Fox Theatre on February 11, 2020.
About Road to Mercy: The film follows patients and their doctors, focuses on Canada's first legal doctor-assisted deaths, and explores the limits and boundaries of this practice. "Road to Mercy" is directed and produced by Canadian screen award winning Nadine Pequeneza.
"A deep, aching, finely drawn film." - Maclean's Magazine
"Powerful, provocative, philosophical." - The Globe & Mail
About our Special Guest: Maureen Taylor is a Physician Assistant in Infectious Diseases at Michael Garron Hospital and Associate Clinical Professor at McMaster University. Before her PA career, she was a broadcast journalist for 25 years.
Maureen served as the co-chair of the Provincial Expert Advisory Group on Physician Assisted Death, and has been an advocate since the death of her husband Dr. Donald Low, who died of a brain tumour and wished until the end that he could have medical aid in dying.
We will also be joined by guest Professor Kevin Reel, Program Director at the Joint Centre for Bioethics at U of T, and current Chair of the Canadian Association of Practising Healthcare Ethicists. Kevin regularly works directly with individuals and families going through the process of choosing an assisted death.
