Description

We are excited to announce the next round of free teacher development workshops at Oxford TEFL Barcelona! These workshops are a fantastic way to develop your teaching skills, pick up some practical tips and network with other teachers in the city. Bring your colleagues and enjoy our modern school and large garden during the breaks. You can attend as many workshops as you like, you just need to confirm your attendance by reserving your place via Eventbrite. Choose from:

Friday February 8th

11.00 – 11.45 Session 1: Adapting course books – what, why and how?

n this workshop I will explain why coursebook lesson plans need adapting, and share some easy ways of doing so in order to make your lessons more engaging and effective. – Jack McKechnie, Oxford House Assistant Director of Studies

12.15 – 13.00 Session 2: Responding to learner talk

This interactive workshop provides a series of clear tips on “how”, “when” and “how much” English teachers should respond to learner talk in the classroom, based on 20 years of teaching practice observation – Barney Griffiths, Oxford TEFL tutor

Friday February 15th

11.00 – 11.45 Session 1: Assessing Cambridge Speaking tests (FCE & CAE)

This practical workshop is for teachers who would like to become more familiar with the assessment criteria of the Cambridge speaking tests and increase their confidence when marking those. You are going to listen to students doing parts of the test, grade their performance and discuss the grades with other teachers – Billie Haase, Oxford TEFL teacher and tutor

12.15 – 13.00 Session 2: Project ideas for Teens

In this workshop we’ll look at some tried and tested project ideas to use with (and engage!) your teen classes. We’ll also talk about how to incorporate games and other activities into long-term projects – Emily Kirk-Patrick, Oxford House teacher

11.00 – 11.45 Session 1: Error Correction: Why is it so important?

There’s no doubt that error correction has it’s place in the language classroom but in what ways can we maximise our learners’ uptake and give the most effective corrections? – Judy Rose, Oxford House Director of Studies

12.15 – 13.00 Session 2: 10 Top tips for teaching without a coursebook

Many of you don´t use a coursebook or have little time to plan. In this highly interactive workshop, I will share some key ideas on teaching without a book and you will have some activities ready to take to class on Monday morning – Melody Philip, Oxford House teacher
