7:30 SHOW

Grad School

Grad School Improv produces narrative, story-driven theatrical improv, known for improvised miniseries such as Point Grey’s Anatomy (Medical Drama), Murder on the West Coast Express (Period Piece Murder Mystery), and Kits Kits Bang Bang (Action Blockbuster).

This year, Grad School Improv has produced a Narrative Tap Out set, a twist on a classic improv tap out that places emphasis on showcasing one complete story, curating ambitious character arcs, and creating an exciting, intricate universe.

Goddamn Bear

Using monologues to inspire scenes, Goddamn Bear is just trying to get through the day. Come, ride the Bear!

Virginia Jack

Inspired by art house cinema and a penchant for the fantastically bizarre, a Virginia Jack show is brash and compelling. Taking place in one location, this narrative long form piece begins with layered, co-created characters shared by two mischievous performers who don’t even know where the beaten path is.

9:30 SHOW

Old Money

Old Money is a house team of Blind Tiger Comedy. A wild band of experienced Vancouver-based performers, they do everything from the classic Harold to unique, hand-crafted forms. They host a fast-paced, long-form improv show the first Friday of every month at Little Mountain Gallery.

Squadball

Squadball explores the weird, witty and wonderful places where friendships are forged and norms are shattered. This nine-member powerhouse of playfulness stretches the boundaries of their imaginations – and yours. Inspired by the folk-blues tunes of Timothy Simpson, Squadball probes into the meaning behind the music, bringing heart, soul and passion to life.

Squadball is a headlining house team with the Kinkonauts in Calgary. Members are Noel Fardy, Caleb Ellsworth-Clark, Nick Haywood, Jennifer LeBlanc, Jess Lindal, Sara Simpson, Jenn Thompson, Joseph Tubb and Niall Watson. This show features live music from special guest Timothy Simpson, head of PR at Suna Studios by day and frontman of the East Van rock band, EV Collective, by night.

Summerland

Summerland is a whimsical longform duo improv team from Los Angeles. They create a show that syncs grounded reality with absolute joy and silliness while constantly making discoveries at full speed based on nothing but a single audience suggestion.

Ellie Race-Moore and Ryan Kelly Coil began performing together back East in Improv Boston’s fast-paced competitive shortform show “Face Off” as well as ImprovBoston’s National Touring Company. After a bit they decided to give it up and slow things down by moving to a village known as Los Angeles. They currently perform, train and eat in and around Los Angeles proper. You can catch them both on Harold Night at iOWest as well as on Mess Hall teams at UCB.
