Description

September 21- Chris Maskell (saxophone) and Mark Ferguson (piano)

Suggested donation- $20

Steinway Piano Gallery Ottawa is pleased to provide our city with a wonderful monthly concert series, performed by Ottawa artists. Our fall series will focus on local jazz talent and will feature some of Ottawa's well-loved musicians: Steve Boudreau (September 21), Chris Maskell and Mark Ferguson (October 26), and John Dapaah (November 30).

Admission is pay what you can, however we do suggest s donation of $20 at the door.

One of the many ways that Steinway supports its community is by raising money in support of the Children's Aid Foundation of Ottawa. The purpose is to provide piano lessons for children in foster care who otherwise wouldn't get to experience the magic of creating music. The money raised at these concerts is used to provide lessons for these children.

Born in Ottawa, saxophonist Chris Maskell is an emerging artist in the Eastern Canadian jazz scene.

Chris has extensive performing experience, and has most recently appeared in Montreal, Toronto and Ottawa with his own groups. He has performed with Josh Rager, Roddy Ellias, Petr Cancura, the TD Jazz Youth Summit, the Yamaha All-Star Band, McGill Jazz Orchestra I and the Nic Gaumond Octet, among others. Additionally, he has appeared at the Ottawa Jazz Festival, the Montreal Jazz Festival, the Toronto Undergraduate Jazz Festival, Merrickville's Jazz Festival and the Ottawa Blues Festival with a variety of groups.

Chris attended McGill University's Schulich School of Music, where he completed his Master of Music in Jazz Performance. During his time at the school, he studied privately with Joe Sullivan, Donny Kennedy, Frank Lozano and Rémi Bolduc.

Mark Ferguson has performed with many of the world’s great artists including Ella Fitzgerald, Tony Bennett, Gil Evans, Nelson Riddle, Dionne Warwick, Natalie Cole, Tom Jones, Rosemary Clooney, Aretha Franklin, Gladys Knight, Gino Vanelli, Rob McConnell & the Boss Brass, Holly Cole, Manteca, The Funk Brothers and the National Arts Centre Orchestra.

Mark is a Faculty Lecturer (jazz, trombone) at McGill University, a Performance Instructor (Jazz Piano/Trombone)/ Sessional Lecturer at Carleton University and is active as a jazz clinician at high schools and universities across Canada.
