Friends Trivia - 11.17.2020 - Canadian Brewhouse Mahogany Calgary 6:30 pm
Event Information
About this Event
By popular demand, we are brining Friends trivia back to you Calgary! We are so excited to do Friends trivia for the first time since February.
The format will be a little different this time - there will be 3 rounds of 15 questions, ranging from easy to challenging. Each round teams will receive a new piece of paper from the host for their answers. The host and a staff member from the venue will do all marking. This format will be implemented to reduce potential contact points at events and prevent tables from directly interacting.
Social distancing and masks required* - All customers must completely adhere to the venue's protocols regarding social distancing and mask wearing while not at their table within the establishment, or will be asked to leave.
Please note: minors are welcome to participate at this event with the purchase of a ticket. The venue is licensed for minors to be in the establishment until 9 pm.
Tickets:
Early bird pricing: $10.99 +Eventbrite fees UNTIL November 3rd
Standard pricing: $12.99 +Eventbrite fees
Teams can be 1 to 6 players - PLEASE BUY ALL TICKETS FOR YOUR TEAM IN ONE TRANSACTION. (Pretty pretty please). We must be very careful to have all teams properly registered so there is adequate space between teams.
Tickets will be available for $16 at the door if the event does not sell out online.
Once you've purchased your ticket, you'll receive an email to register your team roughly a week before the event. You can register multiple people to your team, even if you have not purchased tickets in the same transaction. Please DO NOT register someone before they have purchased their ticket. This notice will be sent out 3 times before the event, but only one member of your team needs to register your team once. If you do not receive the form to register (check your spam folder first), contact us via Facebook message, and we will get you sorted.
If you have any questions, please take a look at our FAQ below, and message us on Facebook or by email (katrina@tipsytrivia.ca) if necessary.
Tipsy Trivia Event FAQ
Q: How do we register teams?
A: About a week before the trivia night, we will send out an email with a form to fill out. This means that if you’ve purchased tickets separately you can still reserve a table together. Team names, team sizes, and arrival times can all be selected at this time. You may also take this time to make a special request. We will send out a list of the team names the night before trivia so you can know if you got your first or second name choice.
Q: We want to change our team name, how do we do it?
A: You can resubmit the form you originally submitted and add a note saying ‘new team name’ 48hours prior to the event. Or change your team name at the event.
Q: Do we need tickets to attend the event, even if we’re not playing?
A: Yes. All people present must have tickets, even if they aren’t planning on answering questions. This is for several reasons including the buildings capacity, and for fairness of competition.
Q: Our team has 6 people and another friend wants to come, can we be a team of 7?
A: No. We have the number of people at a maximum of 6 for a few reasons. 1) To ensure ease of seating arrangements in different venues. 2) Larger teams tend to get louder when trying to share answers, putting them at a disadvantage. 3) Trying to keep things as close to equal as possible. Teams of 7,8,9 would likely fair better than teams of 2.
Q: I didn’t get tickets but my friends and I want to come, what can we do?
A: Feel free to contact us if you didn’t get tickets in time. If we are able to secure more seating we will contact you. We also recommend following our local Facebook page for your city, some of the more popular topics will happen 2-3 times a year (with new questions, themes and prizes) so fans can get a second chance at joining in.
Q: I’m no longer able to attend, can I get a refund?
A: NEW REFUND PROTOCOL AS A RESPONSE TO COVID-19. Any refund request made 48 hours or more before the event is guaranteed – we may not get to the request immediately due to staffing cutbacks, but it will be processed. If you are sick and/or had a potential COVID exposure – please do not attend, message us a minimum of 12 hours BEFORE the event starts and we will refund your ticket for you. Please message us directly on the Facebook page for your city to sort out details as early as possible. If you choose not to attend the event and reach out to us AFTER the event, refunds will not be issued. Many of our events have waitlists of dozens of people hoping to get in and we will work to get those tickets in the hands of people able to attend. If there is severe weather and you no longer feel safe getting to the venue, reach out to us to have your ticket purchase credited towards a future event.
Please be mindful with refunds, we are currently operating at 1/3 staff and our venue capacities are much smaller due to COVID. We would like the chance to sell every seat possible and minimize losses. Thanks for your consideration.
NOTE: Due to a recent update in policy from EVENTBRITE – we can only refund the price of the tickets and taxes. The Eventbrite fees are now non-refundable, except in the case of event cancelation. Tipsy Trivia is not happy with this policy and we are looking for a fair alternative that is in line with our wishes to refund 100% of ticket prices. We are sorry if this causes any inconvenience.
Q: How are you preparing for social distancing and what measures are you taking regarding COVID-19?
The venue is responsible for adhering to their provincial government requirements and regulations in order to operate. For Alberta, you can look at those requirements here: https://open.alberta.ca/dataset/covid-19-information-guidance-for-restaurants-cafes-pubs-and-bars
Venues are maintaining adequate distancing between tables and customers, and have made use of above normal cleaning and sanitization. You may contact them if you require further information.
All customers must be wearing masks while they are in the venue, and not at their table.
Tipsy Trivia will have our hosts do all the marking between rounds, and will be the sole collectors of pens and papers from tables, reducing contact between tables, and safely distributing supplies.
Events will be capped at 100 people for the time being.
Any questions, concerns, or feedback on this can be sent to katrina@tipsytrivia.ca
We suggest wearing your mask as often as possible (helps with cheating), bringing your own sanitizer, and practice mindfulness with your interactions with staff and other patrons.
Q: Can I bring outside food/drinks?
A: No. Bars and Restaurants prohibit outside food and drinks.
Q: It says ‘No cell phones’ during trivia, what if I use mine?
A: We won’t physically stop you from using your phones, however, if you cannot refrain from using them during the question periods, your team may be disqualified from prizing. That means you can still play the trivia, but you cannot win the prizing. Servers, managers, and hosts are all watching for use of phones during question rounds.
Q: Can minors come to the trivia?
A: While Tipsy Trivia doesn’t exclude minors, most venues licenses do. Check with the venue about allowing minors. Standard entry rules and requirements of valid ID apply.
Q: I want to see ___________ Trivia, can you make that happen?
A: Absolutely! We are always looking for suggestions for themed trivia nights, we often send our surveys to guests asking for suggestions on what they would like to attend.
Q: Can I resell my ticket?
A: No. If you no longer wish to attend the event, please reach out to us for a refund. Once tickets change hands, we can no longer communicate with the ticket holder to properly register their team. If you are advertising tickets for sale, we will no longer refund the tickets you’ve purchased as we cannot guarantee they haven’t been sold off before being refunded.
Q: I don’t have a credit card to purchase tickets, what other methods will you accept as payment?
A: We may accept E-Transfers for tickets. Please get in touch.
Q: It says the ticket is $10.99, but I was charged more. Why?
A: Eventbrite charges ticket fees in the neighborhood of 15% as well as the standard government taxes.
Q: I think that my answer should have been accepted for a question but it wasn’t. Who do I talk to?
A: We research as much as possible to have the most accurate questions and answers. We will try to verify everything is correct before asking questions, but occasionally there will be discrepancies. If we are doing a movie trivia, we will not accept answers from the book and vice versa. Our primary source will be the movie/show and using the shows wikia for backup confirmation. Other sources will generally not be accepted. For movies with extended or director cut versions, we will specify which version that questions will be sourced from.
Q: I was unhappy with the service at the bar/pub where trivia was held.
A: If there were problems with the quality of food or service, we would like to know as it is part of the overall experience for our events. While we will pass the information along to the venue, you must personally contact the venue if you would like any compensation. If venues are unable to accommodate the volume of our events, we will find venues better suited.
Q: I was unhappy with the host during trivia, who do I talk to?
A: If you were unhappy with the host, please bring it to our attention by contacting katrina@tipsytrivia.ca we take these matters very seriously.
