Event description

Description

While climate change planning is a process that is often capable of delivering positive outcomes, it can also overestimate the ability of planning to deliver the intended outcomes of both mitigation and adaptation. It is only when climate change action plans are implemented that emissions are reduced and/or adaptive capacity is increased. Drawing on the lessons learned through the Collaborative Implementation Groups project, an initiative of the Great Lakes Climate Change Adaptation Project, participants will have an opportunity to hear from municipal practitioners about the drivers and constraints to implementation as well as participate in workshop activities showcasing available tools and resources that can help municipalities implement actions on the ground.

Learn how to:

  • Engage partners, leverage opportunities, and communicate the benefits of adaptation actions

  • Plan for and address common barriers to implementation

  • Utilize the Partners for Climate Protection Program (PCP) as a tool to support the implementation of a local climate change action plan

  • Develop an implementation and monitoring strategy to achieve Milestones 4 and 5 of the Partners for Climate Protection Program (PCP)

Preliminary Agenda

Morning

  • Hear from speakers about successes and challenges of implementing climate change adaptation
actions (plus Q&A with municipalities who are undertaking innovative adaptation actions across Ontario)

Afternoon

  • Deep dive into Milestones 4 and 5 of the Partners for Climate Protection Program (PCP)
learn from experts on implementing climate action plans to reduce local GHG emissions

  • Take part in collaborative activities on implementation, partnerships, and tracking progress
