About this event
ONE DAY WORKSHOP | HONEYBEE FOLK SCHOOL
SATURDAY APRIL 29, 2023 9:30 AM - 4:30 PM
Depict the colours and textures of your favourite landscape with wool! In this course, learn about various kinds of wool (a sustainable material) and see how they work in this ancient craft of felt-making! Using two felting techniques (wet-felting and dry or needle-felting), play with colours and textures and create a wall hanging to take home with you. Bring a photo or sketch of your chosen landscape. The instructor will provide samples and additional photos for inspiration, walk you through the wet-felting and needle-felting processes, and give options for framing your finished work. We will experiment with upcycled frames and repurposed wood.
MATERIAL COSTS:
$45 to be paid to the instructor on the day of the workshop.
ADDITIONAL MATERIALS:
2 old towels, a hair dryer, a 16-inch length of pool noodle or PVC pipe, and a spray bottle. (The instructor will have a few extras if you can't source all these items.)
THE INSTRUCTOR:
Margaret Anne Smith is a teacher, poet, and fibre artist who lives in Saint John. Fascinated by the interplay of colour and texture, she uses wet felting, dry (needle) felting, and hand-stitching to make garments, wall hangings, and small figures. She draws inspiration from living near the shores of the Bay of Fundy and loves to share her passion by selling at markets, making commissioned works, and facilitating workshops.

About the organizer
NBCCD has been an ambassador for craft and design since the 1930s. We’ve run evening and weekend courses for the public in addition to our diploma programs for decades. With the Honeybee Folk School, we have expanded our programming to include courses in sustainability and traditional skills, alongside popular courses in contemporary craft and design. Just like the honeybee works best in a hive, we see a community that can work together to design a creative and flourishing future for all.
