Event description

Description

Darrell Cole, Founder of Career Trek, shares with you the meaning and importance of the Betty Cole Memorial Scholarship:

“Five years ago, my aunt, Betty Cole, passed away in my arms. My aunt was an amazingly resilient person. She was without partner or child, lived with limited means and spent a good portion of her adult life successfully overcoming addiction issues. Through all of this, she remained a tireless advocate for the disadvantaged and disenfranchised.

When my aunt passed away, she left a small insurance policy to cover her funeral expenses. What was remaining was left to our family. It was then that we decided that we would use this money to launch a scholarship that would help our aunt in carrying her message forward… to help those who most needed help. It was in this spirit that the Betty Cole Memorial Scholarship was established through Career Trek, to assist financially challenged young women achieve their educational and career aspirations.

In 2015 our family established the first Betty Cole Memorial Scholarship Fundraising event as a way of bringing people together over something that unites all people around the globe… tea. Each year the tea focuses on enjoying tea types and practices from a specific culture. In this way, the event aspires not only to help young women, but also to inform and educate us about our commonalities (breaking down walls one cup at a time!).”

All donations will be invested in the Betty Cole Memorial Scholarship fund to celebrate an amazing young woman, who has graduated from Career Trek, every year. Let’s help make Betty’s dream of a better future a reality!

If schedules or distance do not permit you to be with us, please feel free to make a donation to the Betty Cole Memorial Scholarship fund through our website at https://careertrek.ca/donate/. For your generosity, you will receive a specially selected tea sample, along with a tax receipt for your gift. In addition to your tea and tax receipt, you will also receive a self-addressed, stamped envelope that contains a “message of hope” card so that you can send your best wishes and hopes to the annual scholarship recipient.

Thank you so much for your consideration.
