Vancouver, British Columbia
FUNK FOR TREES is a fundraiser party for Ramshackle Pictures' new documentary about the coastal forestry movement called "Heartwood: Forest Guardians of Cortes Island" (directed and produced by Daniel J. Pierce). Kicking off the evening, we will be showing the trailer for the film, as well as a few short clips that will explore the ancient forests of Cortes Island that are owned by industrial logging giant Island Timberlands. All funds will be going towards our Indiegogo campaign.
Watch the trailer and check out our Indiegogo page:
We'll be tracing the history of funk all night long, from classic funk and soul, to hip hop, to the most party-rockin ghetto funk anthems, to the funkiest sounds of futuristic house + disco. We'll also be projecting some stunning visuals of the threatened forests of Cortes Island, and other imagery inspired by the ancient network of mushroom mycelium that permeates the forest floor. FUNK FOR TREES will take you on a funkafied multi-sensory journey into the depths of the old-growth forest!
Featuring all West Coast artists:
DJ K-REC (spinning classic funk + soul—all vinyl set)
FRIENDS WITH THE HELP + DJ K-REC (live hip hop trio)
A hip hop trio from Vancouver who pride themselves on playing catchy, honest music to satisfied crowds.

The duo refuse to be pigeon-holed into any particular genre or style. Hip Hop, Funk, Disco & Reggae form the roots of their sound. They have played at renowned events such as Shambhala Music Festival, Rifflandia Festival, and Bass-Coast Project.
MIDNIGHT MOVE (funky house + acid techno)
With a strong sense of groove and rhythm, Midnight Move has the ability to capture a crowd's very essence and parlay that back through the speakers with face melting tracks and a seamless mixing style.

When & Where
"Heartwood: Forest Guardians of Cortes Island"
"Heartwood" is a feature-length and transmedia documentary produced by Ramshackle Pictures and directed by Daniel J. Pierce. It explores the dynamics of forest activism, forest communities, and forest ecosystems on the coast of BC.
This event is a fundraiser for our Indiegogo campaign. We are currently raising funds, in order that we can continue traveling up and down the coast telling this urgent story of old-growth ecosystems that are being increasingly threatened by industrial logging activities.
