Hesham Solieman

Hesham Solieman is a Digital and Animations artist and Illustrator from Damascus, Syria. He started his art journey in 2000 and since then Hesham has over 20 on-going projects with multiple production houses, art galleries and magazines in the Middle East.

Because of his passion for art, Hesham wanted to start his own School of Art in his hometown to teach children and teens art and give them the opportunity to share their work. Despite the war, he managed to keep the school running even on a small scale.

In 2010, Solieman was invited by the UNICEF to participate in an exhibition about misplaced children in our world.

Today, Hesham still lives in Syria yet his drawings are part of many children books around the Middle East. His work was featured in Toronto in 2018.

Nehad Abdel Kader

Artist Statement: thoughts on the human spirit

Nehad exerts enormous mental effort in reflecting his own vision around the real-life situations of humankind. Nehad’s artistic style uses legendary symbols to project the events and mimic the experience of shaky life. On the one side, Nehad fulfils our feelings towards the fragility and weakness of the human act. On the other side he entraps us in different worlds using intellectual and visual dialogue expressed by folklore stories related to specific geographical spots.

His artistic works portray dynamic and living subjects, such as the woman, the cloud and the tree. Through these subjects Nehad gives entrance to his deep feelings and insights. Throughout all eras, the woman was overcrowded with responsibilities and tasks, and we can see this lady as the dominating figure in his work, expressing her thoughts to the community.

Through his drawings and artistic works Nehad presents to us a live scene that touches on the fear and pain surrounding the part of the world where Nehad was born. It is one of the hottest spots on earth, and faces catastrophic war. Nehad’s humanitarian commitment is to express that suffering to the free world through his unique artistic fingerprint. These works of art shock us with the reality of the situation and direct us to deep thought on the issues.

Nehad’s inspiration is the renewable source of ideas and human spirit. He does not copy its style but rather the real life around us. This makes his message easily digested as it touches our hearts.

We can understand that his works are stages of his life, his memories and the surroundings in which he lived. Those stages are impressed on his soul as a fine artist.

Nehad was born in northern Syria in 1978. He studied at the visual arts institute and later taught special needs students at Raqqa city. Nehad’s first exhibition was held in Raqqa City, Syria in 2002, and later exhibitions across the world, including:

  • Mess in Between the Two Rivers: Lyon, France, 2018
  • Anti-Fact Gallery, Beirut, Lebanon, 2016
  • Hibernation Gallery, Beirut, Lebanon, 2015

Nehad had his own studio in Syria before moving to Ontario in 2018.

Since arriving in Kitchener, Nehad has been featured in The Record (Jan 2020) and Grand magazine
