About this event
Date and Time
There are options for attending the workshop:
- Saturday, June 4th, 2022 1pm - 3pm; or
- Saturday, June 4th, 2022 4pm - 6pm
The Salt Spring Island Local Trust Committee is working with residents, businesses, and First Nations to create a vision and plan for the future of Ganges (Shiya’hwt/SYOWT*) Village. The new plan will be shaped by the insights and input of the community.
Hundreds of residents have already participated in the process, describing the village’s strengths and challenges, and have offering their vision for the future.
Now, we are inviting planning and design ideas from residents about how to bring this vision to life. The workshop will seek input on a range of diverse topics: land use and development, transportation, housing, arts and culture, economic sustainability, climate resiliency, infrastructure, protection of aquifers and biodiversity, and more.
Registered participants will also have the option of joining a walk through the village with Knowledge Keeper and member of Cowichan Tribes, Harold Joe. The walk will take place on the morning of Saturday June 4th, and details will be provided to registered participants closer to the date. Please note that this walk event will be limited to 15 participants total, so not all workshop participants will be able to attend the morning walk session.
* Shiya’hwt/SYOWT are the names of this place used by the Hul’q’umi’num and SENĆOŦEN speaking peoples.
PLEASE NOTE: The registration deadline is May 26th. Once registration is full, a waitlist will be available to join and you will be contacted should a spot open up.
