About this Event

Ganö:nyök: "Words Before All Others" Workshop led by Sodzi’dzo:wa:’ Damian Webster. Damian is Tonawanda Seneca from Buffalo, NY and is the Program Director for Honöta:önih Hënödeyësdahgwa’ at Tonawanda Seneca Nation as well as a part-time adult language instructor.

Ganö:nyök, the Opening Address or Thanksgiving Address is an integral part of all Haudenosaunee gatherings and ceremonies. Participants will listen and learn a very basic version of the opening address in Seneca, and discuss how as Ögwe’öweh, we should all have an opening to give thanks, at the very least for everything we do.

Open to the public, both Indigenous and non-Indigenous.

This workshop will be broken down into three evenings beginning at 6:00pm:

Part 1: Monday, March 16th

Part 2: Monday, March 23rd

Part 3: Monday, March 30th
