About this Event

This years featured gardens include:

303 Terrace Hill Street, Brantford

This corner lot has been recognized by City of Brantford as a Water Wise Garden. To cut down on maintenance, the owners have eliminated much of the lawn and developed cottage style perennial beds that thrive in the sandy soil. Lungwort, lamb’s ear, phlox, coneflower and many other hardy perennials allow the visitor to appreciate the unpretentious beauty of harmonious colour and growth. Cedar, privet and elm hedges serve as a windbreak as well as a privacy fence.

16 Elm Street, Brantford

This Water Wise Garden is relaxed approach to a planned garden. The foundation planting and red maple are original and the magnolia, silk ivory, Japanese maples, cedars, dogwoods and other were planted later. A new design is a Monet style planting “grand allée” of nasturtiums. To reduce maintenance, most of the front lawn was replaced by pea gravel with other stone features which define the various spaces. This garden seems to continually evolve year by year.

106 Blackfriar Lane, Brantford

This garden is a wonderful design for any homeowner that has a corner lot. A variety of trees and shrubs along with perennials and annuals have been used with rocks to create a pleasing, tiered landscape. The visitor will have an appreciation for the unpretentious beauty of harmonious colour and growth.

9 Summerhayes Crescent, Brantford

This beautiful, animal and bird friendly garden has been accredited as a Water Wise Garden for the last 8 years. Weeping hoses are fed from rain barrels to water this chemical free garden. Lots of ground cover along with winter hardy perennials, help to achieve low the maintenance on this mostly shade garden. A greenhouse on the property allows Bill and Sylvia to start their own plants to use in their vegetable garden.

24 Kennedy Street, Brantford

Over 30 years, like many, this garden has been a work in progress. The mature trees, in this established neighbourhood, is the backdrop to the numerous perennials, shrubs and annuals which create continuous colour.

A large pond with various aquatic plants is the focal point providing a soothing, relaxing space, along with many other features that enhance this area. It is a garden worth seeing.

69 Carmichael Crescent

The weight of the world seems to fall from one’s shoulders when entering this soothing landscape and garden. Both privacy and a beckoning invitation to “come in and set a spell” have been achieved here. A unique deck and gazebo design as well as creative plantings have successfully addressed the challenges of a corner property. This Waterwise Garden not only minimizes water usage but also maintenance. You won’t be in any hurry to leave this delightful, relaxing space.
