Calgary Sexual Health Centre, in partnership with Families Matter, is pleased to offer a monthly support group for families and caregivers of gender creative children up to age 14. Gender creative children are kids who express their gender in ways that are different than what others might expect based on their assigned sex at birth. This includes children who may be questioning their gender, transgender, gender non-conforming, gender independent, gender fluid, gender-queer, non-binary, or Two-Spirit.
This support group is an opportunity for caregivers to share stories and experiences, support each other in a non-judgmental and safe atmosphere, and to learn more about gender creativity.
Free childcare is available during each support group session. The childcare space is open for child drop off at 5:45pm and is staffed by volunteers who are experienced with gender creative children. Siblings are always welcome to attend the childcare group.
The Gender Creative Families support group is held at Families Matter Trans Canada Centre, located at unit 158, 1440 52 Street, NE. We will begin promptly at 6:00 p.m. and finish at 7:30 p.m. If you are running late, please still feel free to come in and have a seat.
All meetings include information-sharing, time to connect with other caregivers, and semi-structured group discussion. This is an open group and participants are welcome to attend sessions as their schedules allow. All activities are optional and participants always have the right to pass based on their comfort.
We recognize the wealth of knowledge and experience that all participants bring to this group. These sessions will be supported by a registered psychologist and a sexuality educator. We will begin each session with group guidelines and will actively work towards making this a safer space for all participants. As discussions unfold some topics may arise that might feel uncomfortable for some participants. Additional supports are available at Calgary Sexual Health Centre. To access them please call 403-283-5580 or email email@example.com for more information or to set up an appointment.
October 18, 2016: Our first night of the school year! We will be getting to know each other, and reviewing information about gender expression, and gender identity.
To ensure that we have sufficient space for all participants, please register for all who will be attending (kids included). If you have any questions, or for more information, please contact Janine at: firstname.lastname@example.org
