Victoria Genealogical Society Workshop Series online - Genetic Genealogy – Break Down Your Brick Walls with DNA Cousin Matching
About this event
Do you get confused about what to do next when you see the long list of "cousins" in your DNA match list? Do you struggle to figure out where a "cousin" that you’ve found using a DNA test fits into your family tree?
This workshop will start with a quick review of how DNA testing can help with your family history research. Then, we will move into DNA shared-matching so that you can work through your cousin match list with more confidence.
With the basics in hand, we will introduce match clustering using the Leeds Method. This technique will undoubtedly become one of the most important tools in your toolkit for helping you figure out which part of your family your DNA matches are from.
This course is for people who have at least one DNA kit posted at a DNA testing website and are trying to improve their family history skills using DNA.
Mark Thompson is a regular speaker for the Victoria Genealogical Society on a variety of topics, including: DNA research, archiving, and digitizing family history. Mark is also the coordinator of the VGS' DNA Special Interest Group.
