Description

This is the generation of accessible information. This is the generation for discovery.

Now is the time for this generation, our generation, to reach further, dive deeper, and work together to solve problems in our world.

Join GenSTEM on Saturday, November 24 from 9:00am-4:30pm at McMaster University for a day full of interactive tours & hands-on activities! This event is open to all curious minds in grades 9-12 interested in Science, Technology, Engineering, or Math (STEM).

The conference will be structured as an interactive, activity-centred day where students will have the opportunity to explore and have hands-on experience with innovative facilities and research being conducted at McMaster; this will include workshops with Solar Car design, research on music & the brain at the Psychology LiveLab, physiology experiments in the Children’s Hospital, and a tour around McMaster's 3D Printing facility! Additionally, we will have an interactive panel discussion composed of successful and inspiring students at McMaster for you to ask questions and learn more about STEM-based programs at McMaster, university applications, school-life balance, extra-curricular activities, and more.

Best of all, if you register by November 15th, you'll have a chance to vote on some activities! Check out our website for the schedule.

Questions? Please email us at wiseinitiative@gmail.com!

Frequently Asked Questions:

1. Is this conference only for female students, seeing as it's run by the Women in Science & Engineering Initiative?

Absolutely not! All students in grades 9-12 are welcome to the conference! Though our organization's mission is to encourage female participation in STEM, GenSTEM is designed for ALL curious minds!

2. Will there be lunch at this event?

Yes! We will have a light breakfast and lunch free of charge for all attendees. Attendees will not be permitted to leave the GenSTEM activity site to purchase a lunch. You are welcome to bring snacks if you wish!

3. I have dietary restrictions. Can I bring my own food or tell you about my diet?

Of course! Please list your dietary restrictions when you register on Eventbrite. You will also be permitted to bring your own food as well.

4. What should I wear?

Dress comfortably. You do not need to be dressed in business attire - in fact, we discourage you from dressing formally. We will be walking around the University and doing activities together, so runners & comfy clothes are best!

5. Can I explore campus on my own?

During GenSTEM, you'll be taken through some exclusive lab tours and around the McMaster campus. We ask that you stay with us during the tour. Extra tours and exploration and be done after the conference - for example, you may be interested in signing up for a tour of campus with your parents at a later date!

6. I am 18 years old. Do I still need to sign the waiver forms?

Yes, please print them off and bring them with you!

7. I don't see a building or exact location listed. Where is this taking place within the McMaster campus?

To protect the privacy of the students attending, this information will be sent out in a separate email to our registrants.
