About this event

Get on Board with PIN

Did your organization vote in new directors this past spring? Have you been asked, "what do I need to know?" Do you have existing board members who would like to advance their knowledge and skills in board governance?

5-part series to lay the foundation of what it means to be a member of a board of a local nonprofit or charity. Leadership volunteers in our community with experience and knowledge in board governance provide core content.

For one price, send 2 board members from your organization to all or any of these workshops. Workshops are held on 5 consecutive Wednesdays from 4:00 - 5:30 pm.

At this time, all 5 sessions will be held virtually through Zoom. Confirmation and video link will be provided closer to the date of the first session.

2 Board Members. 5 weeks. $100. That is only $10 per session!

Non-Member rate is $150 for two people for the 5 part series.

Individuals interested in Board Service and want foundational training $80 for the series

NOTE: please register as one organization and provide contact name and email to kim@PINnetwork.ca

Board Roles and Responsibilities By the end of the session participants will be able to define the role of the board, the role and responsibility of individual board members, and identify and describe the five primary areas of Board responsibility.

Building Effective Board Teams By the end of the session participants will be able to identify the components of the Board Building Cycle, understand the elements of Board recruitment as well as how to create an effective orientation, training and evaluation plan. Participants will also discuss necessary elements of developing a positive organizational and board culture.

Human Resource Stewardship By the end of the session participants will be able to understand the key human resource responsibilities of the board, understand and comply with current legislation and identify policies and procedures for effective human resource management. Participants will also discuss planning for the future through strategic thinking about human resources.

Financial Stewardship for Nonprofit Organizations By the end of the session participants will be able to define the Board’s role in oversight in maintaining fiscal responsibility, identify strategies for establishing a budget to monitor and control expenditures, read a financial statement and identify critical questions to ask about finance. Participants will also learn to identify required policies, control systems and reporting requirements.

Strategic Planning and Evaluation By the end of the session participants will be able to identify the importance of strategic planning and evaluation, identify a framework for effective planning, be able to articulate mission, vision and values (and the difference between then) and distinguish between outputs and outcomes in an evaluation.
