Get School'd: Holiday Cross Stitch Workshop
Thu, 8 December 2016, 7:00 PM – 9:00 PM EST
What’s this all about?
Cross stitching has come back in a big way. We're particularly fond of designs that include Beyonce lyrics, swear words, quotes from Mean Girls–and the best, sassy Christmas stitches. Get in the spirit and gift yourself a new skill. You'll end up creating a piece that even your friend (who starts groaning when Christmas carols hit the radio the day after Halloween) will be obsessed with.
Learn how to create your very own holiday-themed ornament using simple crossstitch techniques! This class is perfect for beginners, and is an excellent way to keep busy on transit, in a coffee shop, or while watching TV. Located in the Gladstone Hotel’s Melody Bar, this workshop is a casual, fun opportunity to learn to stitch while having a drink. Come join us and get crafty!
What will we cover?
You will learn the basic “cross” stitch. Once you have mastered this stitch, you will learn how to use a counted cross-stitch pattern to complete a finished piece—your cross stitch in a bamboo hoop, finished with ribbon to hang as an ornament! We will also discuss the different materials available, add-ons, and where to buy your own supplies for future projects.
Who will be teaching?
Michelle Gauthier is an artist and graduate from OCAD University, with a degree in Criticism and Curatorial practices. She uses cross-stitching and embroidery to facilitate conversations around societal norms on controversial subjects, as well as to inspire others to see ‘ordinary’ things differently. Her work has been featured by VICE, Buzzfeed, and Bizarre Magazine. Check out her Etsy shop here.
