GFF 2016-MTS Stories from Home 5: Outside the Perimeter-SAT JULY 23 5:30PM
Sat, 23 July 2016, 5:30 PM – 7:30 PM CDT
Sponsored by MTS Stories from Home, "Outside the Perimeter" is a collection of made-in-Manitoba documentaries that highlight two different artists that produced much of their work in rural Manitoba, and certainly outside that traditional arts industry.
No Cultural Value
A Manitoba folk painter and sculptor tried unsuccessfully for nearly 10 years to will his land, sculptures and 500 paintings to the province of Manitoba. Folk and outsider art is universally celebrated …..except in Manitoba, where it is considered disposable, or in the case of Interlake artist Armand Lemiez and the assessment by the provincial Minister of Culture, "to have no cultural value".
Private Lives of Wild Creatures, The
The Private Lives of Wild Creatures is about polar bears, great gray owls and how Robert Taylor followed his passion for the outdoors.
A pioneer of eco-tourism, Robert Taylor explored and guided for over sixty years taking photographs that have helped define our nation, shape public opinion, and capture imaginations.
