Event description
Gillian Walters - Why milk is a feminist issue

About this Event

Gillian is a Registered Clinical Counsellor, author, speaker, activist, and most importantly a mom. She has a Master of Arts degree in Counselling Psychology, and has written and illustrated two vegan children’s books, King Zoom and the Great Seal Pup Rescue (2015) and King Zoom the Vegan Kid: Animals Used for Food (2018).

She is the co-founder of BC Vegan Magazine, British Columbia's first provincial vegan magazine, dedicated to local vegan communities' stories, culture, food, vegan businesses, and activism.

Gillian stopped eating animals as a teenager after hearing the sounds of pigs screaming en route to slaughter. At fifty she reflects on her journey into veganism and activism, and how she uses art as a tool for activism and healing. She is currently touring North America with her camera and her voice to shed light on the dairy industry, an area of exploitation Gillian is specifically passionate about. In her expose she explains why milk is a feminist issue and draws parallels between the oppression of woman and animals.
