About this Event
The third annual Global Connections Student Leadership Gathering brings together student leaders from across the University of Saskatchewan for a weekend of leadership development, cultural awareness and collaboration on the USask campus situated on Treaty 6 territory and Homeland of the Metis. Students who attend this event will:
• Gain confidence in their roles as student leaders
• Develop intercultural competence skills
• Gain deeper understanding of their impact as local and global citizens
• Make lasting connections with other student leaders
This year's Student Leadership Gathering will be a two-day event. The agenda will be as follows:
Friday, January 17: Reception and social from 7:00 to 10:00 p.m. in Louis' Basement
Saturday, January 18: Presenters and collaborative learning from 10:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. in Louis' Loft
Program
Friday, January 17: Reception and social at Louis' Basement
7:00 p.m.: Welcome and introductions
8:00 p.m.: Opportunity to socialize with other student leaders
Saturday, January 18: Presenters and Collaborative Learning at Louis' Loft
9:30 to 10:00 a.m.: Arrival with light breakfast/coffee and tea
10:00 to 10:30 a.m.: Brief Welcome
10:30 to 12:00 noon.: Leadership, Diversity and Intercultural Competence with Elizabeth Duret
12:00 noon to 1:00 p.m.: Lunch
1:00 to 2:30 p.m.: Being Leaders and Global Citizens with Martin Gaal
2:30 to 2:45 p.m.: Short break
2:45 to 4:15 p.m. Interactive group discussion led by the USSU/GSA
4:15 to 5:00 p.m. Closing remarks and socializing
About the presenters
Elizabeth Duret is the Senior Inclusion and Diversity consultant at the University of Saskatchewan and provides leaders with expertise, support and training related to equity, diversity and inclusion and Indigenization. You can get a sample of Elizabeth's past work from her presentation at the USask TedX conference, Building Bridges.
Martin Gaal is a faculty member in the Political Science department at the University of Saskatchewan. He has a wealth of international experience, having obtained his PhD from the University of Kent in England. He has helped shape many international initiatives on campus including the Global Studies Certificate, the Global Cafe and many Taught Abroad programs.
The Student Leadership Gathering is approved for the USask Co-Curricular Record program. It is hosted by the International Student and Study Abroad Centre, the University of Saskatchewan Student Union and the Graduate Student Association.
