About this Event

June 2, 2020 - 8:00PM - 11:00PM EDT

June 17, 2020 - 8:00AM - 11:00AM EDT

To accommodate multiple time zones, GMG has scheduled two separate dates for this workshop. At the time of registration the desired date and time can be chosen.

Location Tracking has many applications in mining, and there are many location tracking technologies that are highly effective in other environments and industries. However, many of these technologies are not customized for use in the mining industry.

The lack of GPS and the nature of the underground environment are also problematic for the required precision and accuracy. The subject of underground location tracking is not sufficiently advanced to enable all potential use cases in mining despite the advancement of new technologies. Learn more here.

GMG has recently launched a Location Tracking project aimed at:

• developing a playbook for mine operators looking to implement location tracking within their mines

• explaining the technical aspects of location tracking and guide mine operators toward implementing practical solutions

Calling on experts!

GMG is recruiting volunteers willing and able to contribute time and expertise to helping develop a guideline that will benefit the global mining industry. Over the coming months the guideline will be drafted through contribution and collaboration of peers around the globe. The project is kicking off with virtual workshops in the coming weeks to:

• obtain a clear understanding of what information needs to be developed for the Location Tracking guideline

• identify volunteers willing to share their expertise, creating small work committees to develop different sections of the upcoming guideline

• Workshops were held in April and May

• Following these launch workshops, online collaboration will continue to enable the development of the guideline, with the next workshops scheduled for June 2 and June 17.

Workshop prep

To optimize our time together, here are some things to consider (from your and your company’s perspectives) before we meet:

• What’s new, evolving and emerging in the realm of location tracking

• Key priorities and challenges

• Applications in underground mining and their location tracking requirements

• Other organizations’ efforts and standards

Who would be interested in this project

• This project would be of interest to mining decision-makers, subject matter experts, and mining contractors (EPCMs) responsible for implementing location tracking systems.
