Going the Distance – A History of Land Surveying in the North Okanagan

Join Peter Tassie and Richard Shoesmith on a journey through the history of land development and surveying methods in the Greater Vernon area, from the earliest inhabitation by non-Indigenous settlers until the late 20th Century.
Together, the two men will present on of some of the events and conditions beginning in 1846 reviewing the first Crown grants, the “big ranch phase”, and the impacts of the Great Depression and the two world wars. Present day surveying will also be discussed, looking at the transformations of land surveying, surveying equipment, and land development.
Admission is by donation but seating is limited, so please register ahead.
