Event description
Join the Historical Society of Ottawa for a special screening of Great Canal Journeys: Rideau Canal

About this Event

In the summer of 2018, Britain’s Channel 4 came to Ontario to film an episode of a long-running program called Great Canal Journeys. The series features the husband and wife team of Prunella Scales and Timothy West as they embark on spectacular canal journeys across Britain and abroad.

This episode features the Rideau Canal. Starting at Kingston and the Thousand Islands, the two actors, who are both in their mid-eighties, motor up the Canal stopping along the way to talk to people and explore the history of this UNESCO World Heritage Site. Stops include Seeley’s Bay, Jones Falls, the Opinicon Inn, Merrickville, Hog’s Back Falls, and of course the locks in downtown Ottawa. The couple also take a guided tour of the Parliament buildings.

The Historical Society of Ottawa provided information to the Channel 4 production team, and as a thank you, they kindly gave us permission to hold a special showing of this one-hour episode to our members and guests. This FREE public event will take place at:
