Description

Great Pictures: Art History & Art Appreciation Course
This short art history course of 3 sessions will examine a selection of exceptional pictures created over the past 1000 years. Most people are familiar with iconic paintings like DaVinci's "Mona Lisa" or Van Gogh's "Starry Night," but have you ever looked carefully at them? What historical forces helped shape these images, how do they function as art, and what can they tell us about the human experience?

Session 3 - April 13: The Beginnings of Modern Art - New and Shocking
What does it take to shock a 19th century Parisian in an art gallery? Find out as we take a look at some paintings from the earliest days of Modern Art, examine the historical context that helped shape them, and consider why they were so shocking.

Registration required, limited spaces.
$5.00 per session includes any hand-outs and light refreshments.
