Description

The Scottish Society of Ottawa, in partnership with Ottawa Public Library presents a new show by Douglas Gibson: GREAT SCOTS: Canadian Fiction writers with Links to Scotland, from 1867 to Today.

Douglas Gibson is a Canadian Literature publishing icon, editor, writer and raconteur. He was born and raised in Scotland, and moved to Canada in 1967. He built an impressive career in Canada as one of the nation's best-known and respected editors and publishers of Canadian Literature, most recently as the former president and publisher of McClelland and Stewart.

During his 65-minute show, Gibson will take us through our Canadian history, talking about the storytellers against their historic background. Among the Great Scot authors discussed are predictable names like Hugh MacLennan, Alistair MacLeod, Margaret Laurence, W.O.Mitchell, and Alice Munro but also some surprising names, like Philippe-Joseph Aubert de Gaspe, Mavis Gallant, Ralph Connor, and Stephen Leacock.

This will be an entertaining and informative evening presentation in the beautiful Arts Court Theatre. Perfect Books will be selling Douglas Gibson’s recent publications at the event: Stories about Storytellers and Across Canada by Story.

The SSO is pleased to add this literary celebration to the 2019 OttScot Festival.
