Lana Cuthbertson uses her expertise in communications, media, public and government relations, leadership, innovation and writing in a few contexts. She works in the financial services sector as a senior manager on ATB Financial’s business innovation team. She is also the chair of the Alberta North chapter of Equal Voice, a multi-partisan organization that advocates for the election of more women to political offices in Canada at all levels of government.
Mack Male and Karen Unland are co-founders of Taproot Edmonton - a source of curiosity-driven stories about the city, cultivated by the community. Mack is a self-described Edmonton geek. Mack is a well-known local blogger, writing about urban affairs in Edmonton at mastermaq.ca. He lives in Ward 6. Karen pays attention to Edmonton's independent media through Seen and Heard in Edmonton, a blog and a podcast about bloggers and podcasters in Edmonton. Kairi Pawlick is the Community Co-chair of Edmonton's NextGen - a Council Initiative of the City of Edmonton and a volunteer-powered committee of passionate and community minded people who want to create a city that attracts and gives voice to the next generation of Edmontonians. For the civic election this year, NextGen developed a ward ambassador and pints and politics program across the city, aimed to connect members in the community for discussion on issues and opportunities in their ward, and to inform nextgeners on the voting process and getting to know their candidates through attendance at the non-partisan civic elections forums. Kairi is also a recipient of Avenue Magazines' Top 40 under 40, a civil engineer in land development at Stantec Consulting, and Chair of the Faculty of Engineering Young Alumni Council at the University of Alberta. She is a community leader and passionate advocate for positive change. Her work towards building community in both her volunteer and professional work continues to inspire those around her and invigorate her passion for the city she calls home.
In March of 2016 the Provincial Government appointed Michael Phair Chair of the University of Alberta’s
Board of Governors. From 1992-2007, Michael was an elected member of City Council representing the
former Ward 4, the central area of Edmonton. Michael Phair was a founder of the AIDS Network of Edmonton, current Board Member of Paths for People, Pro Choral Canada, SAGE Edmonton and Chair of the Youth Systems Committee to Eliminate Youth Homelessness with Edmonton Homeward Trust and has been an active member of the Queer Community for many years in Edmonton.
