As Canada transitions to a low-carbon economy, it’s critical that youth aren’t left behind.

About this event

Across Canada, young people continue to face barriers to securing green jobs, especially those who have traditionally been excluded from the environmental field.

Join this special Brown Bag Lunch to dig deeper into the challenges and opportunities for youth, especially international students and newcomers, in entering Canada’s sustainability sector. You’ll hear directly from young climate leaders and leave with valuable insights on how to make green jobs more accessible to everyone.

About the Series

Young people make real, positive change happen and when it comes to tackling big challenges, like the climate crisis, youth have stepped up to take action and create opportunities. Through collaboration and knowledge sharing, young people from around the country are helping advance progress towards the 2030 SDG Agenda and climate justice.

In this new event series, Putting (YOU)th on the Agenda: Youth Climate Lab’s RAD Cohort Reflects on Radical Collaboration Towards Agenda 2030, hosted in partnership with Youth Climate Lab, Alliance 2030, and RAD, we’ll hear from youth climate leaders about making green jobs accessible for all, creating the future of food, radical collaboration, and building meaningful partnerships.

About the Speakers

Sabrina Guzman Skotnitsky (she/her) is a climate justice advocate, researcher and youth consultant on the unceded territory of the Musqueam, Squamish and Tsleil-Waututh peoples. As the International Policy Specialist at Youth Climate Lab she develops resources and supports programs empowering youth to take leadership in climate spaces, particularly focused on policy advocacy, access to financing, and green entrepreneurship.

Vaniartha Vaniartha (she/her) is an international student from Indonesia residing on the unceded territory of the Musqueam, Squamish, and Tsleil-Waututh Nations. As part of the Youth Climate Lab's RAD Cohort, she and her project partner, Haruka Aoyama, conducted the Green Jobs for International Students in Canada survey to understand the barriers faced by international students in getting into green jobs in Canada, and the resources required to eliminate these barriers.

About our Partners

Alliance 2030 is an ongoing project designed to engage organizations and the public in the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) between now and the conclusion of the goals in the year 2030. The Alliance is comprised of a growing network of organizations from across sectors working to advance the SDGs both in Canada and abroad, built on the belief that Agenda 2030 can be accomplished by working creatively and collaboratively at both the local and global level. Alliance2030 centers around Agenda 2030’s mission to “leave no one behind”.

Community Foundations of Canada (CFC) is the national leadership organization for Canada’s 191 local community foundations. Our purpose is relentlessly pursuing a future where everyone belongs. Together with community foundations across the country, we help drive local solutions for national change on the issues that matter most to Canadians. We’re building a movement that connects community foundations, communities and partners to create a just, sustainable future.

Youth Climate Lab (YCL) is a Canada-based, global non-profit organization. Founded in May 2017, our mission is to design, pilot, and scale innovative experiments for youth, by youth, that tackle problems faced by young people around the globe in their fight against climate change. Through tools, programs and convenings that connect youth to each other, YCL creates opportunities for radical collaboration and new initiatives, enabling young people – no matter who they are or where they are from – in building the just, climate-resilient futures they deserve.

Funded by the support of the Government of Canada's Sustainable Development Goals Program.
