What, When, Where

We meet each 3rd Wednesday of every month at Mahony’s Pub, near the Waterfront skytrain station, from 5:30 pm to 8:00 pm. Drop in any time; stay as late as you want. There is no entry fee, but plan to get a beverage and/or a snack. The food at Mahony's Pub is good and you don’t have to drive home!

This is not a meeting with speeches; just bunches of tables with friends. To get the conversation started, we’ll have a sheet of table topics (see below), but chat about whatever you want.

Save Time and Register Now

Sure, you can read to the end of this invitation; but, if you're Green, you can save time and simply register now.

Who is invited?

We welcome everybody; the more diverse we are, the better. You do not have to be a Green Party member to attend.

Each month, we'll remind the CEOs of EDAs in the Lower Mainland to email their members with the link to the new month's Eventbrite registration. Plus we’ll let provincial and municipal Green Parties in the Lower Mainland know about the new Wednesday Social so they can invite their membership. And, any federal or provincial Greens or central office staff members are welcome.

If Elizabeth May MP, Andrew Weaver MLA, Adam Olsen MLA, or Sonia Furstenau MLA can arrange to be in Vancouver on a 3rd Wednesday, they will be our honoured guests – but they CAN’T MAKE ANY SPEECHES, just socialize and join in the table topics discussions.

The same welcome goes to the myriad of elected Vancouver Greens, but it’s more likely they will be in Vancouver anyway, so we’ll only buy these honoured guests their first beverage! When more municipal Greens are elected in the Lower Mainland this fall, we’ll be happy to buy them a beverage as well.

Free Gifts

Name Badge – Everyone who registers will get a free name badge and holder with their name, city, name of their EDA, and their EDA board title (if any). Those active at the provincial level, can include their riding, too.

To determine your federal EDA, enter your postal code in Find Your Riding.

You’re welcome to keep your name badge to use at other events. We’ll print a new one for you for each Wednesday Social.

Business Cards (set of 10) – If you are a member of the Green Party of Canada and request business cards on this Eventbrite registration, you can pick up your set of 10 when you pick up your name badge. Your card will also include your email address (required) and phone (optional). These business cards are great for your outreach. If you like, you can get another set of 10 business cards each time you attend a Wednesday Social.

Table Topics

To help get the conversations started at each table, we’ll have a sheet of table topics. When you register on line, you can suggest additional table topics. We have many of the same problems in our EDAs, provincial ridings, and municipal parties; hopefully we can share solutions as well. Here are the current table topics. We’ll add your suggestions before the next meeting.

  • How can we help the pipeline protesters on Burnaby Mountain?

  • How can we help support the federal Green Party convention at the Westin Bayshore at the end of September?

  • What theme should we use to distinguish the Green Party from all other political parties? Is It Fair gives a starting point for conversations about what policies are needed to make a better Canada.

  • Can EDAs combine purchases for Green Party promo items and save money? T-shirts, mugs, totes, umbrellas.

  • How can we help Greens get elected in municipal elections this October?

  • Can the Lower Mainland EDAs save time, trouble, and expense by using the same bookkeeping firm?

  • What is the most respectful way to ask for donations?

  • How can we reduce items going to landfills and those going to recycling?

  • What is the goal in your EDA for the 2019 federal election?

  • Aside from free business cards(!), what would be good perks for Green Party membership?

  • How can we help with the green economy and green economics?

  • How can we share services such as caterers and printers?
  • Youth engagement
  • BC PR Referendum

After each Green Social Wednesday, we'll mail the contact names of champions of each table topic so you can join an Action Committee if you like.
