Join Linda Sovdi from SOS and Charmaine Hammond from Hammond International Inc. in understanding grief and loss and the signs, symptoms and relief of compassion fatigue. With Linda you will learn effective strategies to cope, rebuild and be resilient. She will be sharing valuable information to help you cope with the losses associated with our community’s recent disaster, the cycle of grief and loss, and the emotional and physical responses to loss.
Then Charmaine will identify how to deal with the increased demands for services being put on organizations while at the same time supporting those working with clients. Compassion Fatigue simply put is “fatigue, emotional distress, or apathy resulting from the constant demands of caring for others or from constant appeals from charities” and can put staff and volunteers at risk of becoming deeply impacted by the continuing stress of meeting the often overwhelming needs of client and community. Compassion fatigue can have a significant impact on a workplace if not identified and addressed. It can impact quality of service, job satisfaction, employee retention, employee’s emotional and physical health, and the workplace environment by decreasing productivity and workplace culture.
