Description

Practical and soulful approaches to supporting others through grief, loss and transition in ways that promote dignity and meaning through times of pain.

Through visualization, active metaphors, individual reflection, and small group work, participants will gain insight into concepts and strategies to further embody their ability to hold space for others, companioning them through transitions in effective and healing ways.

Explorations and learning concepts include:

- Grief and the power of nature, metaphor and story-telling

- Grief expression and mourning rituals

- The importance of weaving the individual story of grief with the collective story of grief

- Complexities of loss - tangible/intangible and disenfranchised

- Recognizing and naming grief yearnings as a place to focus support

- A guided pathway to engage healing conversations

- Providing affirming social responses

This workshop is for anyone interested in heart-centered therapeutic approaches to supporting others through difficult times - whether it be death of a loved one, illness, divorce, relationship endings, substance use/recovery, moving, cultural loss, major life transitions and more. Welcome care-givers, support workers, community volunteers, counsellors, clergy, social workers, students, family members, and other healing practitioners.

"I very much enjoyed Shauna's Grief Support workshop and love her gentle respectful way of discussing grief and working with clients. I’ve attended a few lectures now on supporting people through the grief journey, but I found Shauna's approach to be really insightful. I know much of what we discussed will be so helpful with my clients." Marilyn Welsh, Doctor of Veterinarian Medicine, Ardmore Veterinary Services

"I loved the examples of healing conversations; really translated the content into practical use and made it achievable" - Courtnay, Restorative Justice Victoria

"I feel like I have a full understanding of how to approach the topic of grief and loss with my clients" - Jenny G, Big Brothers, Big Sisters

"The workshop was engaging, with visuals, metaphors, and I loved the grounding and healing conversations. I will us this in many different areas. Shauna's passion and authenticity are inspirational" - Vashti, Camosun College
