Event description

Description

Here at Groundswell, we are constantly rethinking the frame of possibilities, designing creative & collaborative solutions, and are committed to building meaningful livelihoods & social ventures.

This Tuesday, let's gather and think and talk about the values-based principle of an 'alternative economy,' with none other than Chris Nichols, founding worker-owner of The Wood Shop Workers' Coop & Groundswell's facilitator & mentor.

Chris will speak about his experience in co-founding a worker co-op in Vancouver, and why he feels that worker co-ops are compelling alternatives to contemporary forms of organization in capitalism.

As an alternative in practice, a small-scale worker coop has the potential to make meaningful change and contribute to the growth of a more equitable, sustainable economy here in Vancouver. He hopes to show how this movement is not only necessary - but possible.

About our Speaker

Chris is a philosopher, carpenter and facilitator of our Ethics and Contemporary Capitalism course. Chris is a Groundswell alumni who dropped his PhD studies to pursue a livelihood that has him working with his hands. He is now building both upcycled wood furniture and alternative economic systems simultaneously as a founding worker-owner of the Wood Shop Workers Co-op.
