free trauma-informed, person-first virtual workshop, centering sexual assault/domestic violence survivors

About this event

sound_therapy.wav provides 1 free trauma-informed, person-first virtual workshop on wellness for survivors in our arts & music scene. Aug 14th is for sexual assault & domestic violence survivors only to gather over Zoom, share our experiences, and practice wellness strategies. Participants who are interested can contribute anonymously to writing a poem with stuff we want our community to know, which will be circulated on IG.

Aug 21st is canceled due to organizers' lack of capacity <3 we may resume in the future.

#sound_therapy music festival was created by Sunny Chen AKA Sad China (they/she) due to their experiences within our music communities. Sunny is a queer, nonbinary artist, survivor, and 1st generation settler on stolen ancestral lands belonging to Katzie, Kwantlen, Matsqui, and Semiahmoo First Nations, colonially-known as "Surrey". They hold a BA in psychology from UBC, make music and movies, and daydream about the 2000s. They want to destigmatize therapy (& make it accessible for low-income folks), and contribute to a safer and more inclusive music scene.

Luna Hoyek is co-leading the workshop. Luna is a bisexual Lebanese music and event industry professional with nearly a decade of experience booking and managing entertainment in nightclubs, concert venues, festivals, and corporate events in the unceded territories of the Musqueam, Squamish, and Tsleil-Waututh peoples.

The music festival is hosted on unceded lands belonging to Musqueam, Squamish & Tsleil-Waututh First Nations. Our festival runs Aug 14-24th (with a livestream showcase) in so-called "Mount Pleasant".
