Grow Your Cause!
You have an important cause, and need to build more awareness and support to move it forward. If you need help getting to the next level, this workshop is for you. Learn about increasing publicity and building alliances. This workshop is for people involved with emerging causes in small organizations (big orgs need not apply). Attendees can be volunteers, staff, board members, founders, instigators and all-round rabble-rousers!
Participants will learn about these basic strategies:
- Political pressure – influence elected representatives
- Images – a great photograph can make a huge difference
- Public and media relations – low-and-no-cost strategies to get the word out
- Education – initiatives to reach your target group
You will also develop your own ‘elevator speech’ and brainstorm an event that is unique to your issue. Along with the presenter, participants should be ready to share their success stories. Participants are encouraged to bring samples of cause-related images and materials: what works? what doesn’t? Come prepared to work together, perhaps even discover an ally!
