Growing Room 2019 Workshop: Speech Arts for Writers

Description
In this workshop, experienced speech arts teacher and award-winning writer Ruth Daniell will guide writers through the process of preparing an excellent literary performance. Participants will learn the basics of posture, eye focus, and vocal projection but also gain insight to the more sophisticated tools of vocal variety, emphasis, pause, and breath. This fun, fear-banishing workshop is designed to encourage writers to connect and engage with their audiences and gain confidence with the emotional nuances of public speaking and performance.

Workshop Recommendations
In addition to any items mentioned in workshop descriptions, we recommend that workshop attendees bring the following:
- A warm sweater or blanket (especially if your workshop is at 24 West 4th Avenue: the building can be a little chilly!)
- A meal or snack (bottled and tap water will be available at all workshops, and coffee will be available at the workshops held during the day on weekends)
