Description

Growing Room: A Feminist Literary Festival is a celebration of diverse Canadian writers and artists presented by Room magazine.

The festival runs March 1st - 4th, 2018 at various locations in Vancouver, BC.

The festival features 40+ writers in 25+ events over four days. Among the line-up are acclaimed writers Amber Dawn, Gurjinder Basran, Gwen Benaway, Jillian Christmas, Maggie de Vries, Farzana Doctor, Silvia Moreno-Garcia, and Ijeoma Oluo, who’ll share the stage with a host of other established and up-and-coming names.

Growing Room takes place on the traditional, unceded, and ancestral territory of the Musqueam, Tsleil-Waututh, and Squamish peoples.




HOW TO REGISTER FOR EVENTS:

Registration for panels and readings are pay-what-you-can or by-donation (recommended: $10 per event). If your registration and donation equals $35 or more, you will receive a one-year subscription to Room magazine.

Not sure if you want to donate, or how much you want to donate? Register for free, and you’ll have the option to donate or subscribe to the magazine after each of your events. Just visit the sales table at your venue! Please note that tax receipts will not be issued for donations.

Workshops and the opening night party are both ticketed. If you wish to take a workshop or attend the opening night party, but the cost of entry is a financial barrier, please email Chelene Knight at managingeditor@roommagazine.com and we'll try to help you out.

1. Select the events you want to attend by reading through the event descriptions at roommagazine.com/festival or in our print program (available in February 2018 at various locations around the Lower Mainland)

2. Click the green 'Tickets' button above and scroll through the list of events to find yours. Select the number of seats you want to reserve for each event you plan to attend and click 'Check out.'

3. If any of your events have a ticket cost (such as the launch or the workshops), and/or you wish to donate, you can pay using your credit card. If you would like to register for an event but prefer to pay by cash or cheque, please email Chelene Knight at managingeditor@roommagazine.com.

4. There is no need to print your ticketyour name will be included on a guest list for each event.

Tickets to the Opening Night Party (with music by Too Attached) are $15, plus GST and Eventbrite fees. Two-and-a-half-hour workshops are $15 each, and four-hour workshops are $20 each, plus GST and Eventbrite fees. Manuscript consultations are $35 for a half-hour consult (including notes prepared in advance on one of your works).

Sold Out Events / Walk Ups

There will be standing room and seats available at panels and readings for people who have not registered for events (including sold-out events). Priority seating will be given to elders and disabled people.

Manuscript Consultations

Manuscript consultations are available with experienced editors and writing instructors for $35 for a half an hour consultations on Saturday, March 3, plus personalized feedback on a manuscript (up to 10 pages). If you are purchasing a manuscript consultation, please carefully note your time slot and be prepared to submit your manuscript to your consultant one week in advance, by Saturday, February 24, 2018. We will email you with more information after you register.

Getting Here

All venues are easily accessible by transit, including the #84, #3, #99, and #9 bus routes, the Olympic Village Station on the Canada Line, and the Main Street - Science World Station on the Expo Line. Information on bus routes and schedules can be found at translink.ca.

Free parking is available in the parking lot at the Native Education College, while there is a paid parking lot on 6th and Main near the Fox Cabaret. Street parking is available on any of the numbered streets west of Ontario Street after 4pm on weekdays and on weekends. There is also limited street parking available on 3rd Street in front of School Creative.
